Complementary Colors. These are the colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Examples from the traditional color wheel include red and green, blue and orange, purple and yellow. Complementary colors don’t have to be pure colors, just think of dusty rose and aqua or light red-violet and pear green The squares can be individual colors, prints using both colors, or any combination.

Solids or prints using Analogous Colors. These are colors that are side by side on the color wheel. Analogous color groups can include from three to seven colors. An example of a three-color combination is golden-yellow, yellow, and chartreuse. An example of a five-color combination is magenta, blue-red, red, orange-red, orange. An example of a seven-color combination is blue-green, aqua-green, aqua-blue, turquoise, cerulean blue, blue, blue-violet.
